Being judged for your artistic merit is pretty scary. Meeting your heroes to judge your artistic ability can be frightening. Being good at anything takes a lot of serious hard work and dedication; and once you’ve conquered one hill there’s always another waiting. Sometimes your own worst critic is yourself, and self-sabotage is easier than facing withering criticism when you’re convinced you’ve done your best. The trick, as you’ve heard so many times in so many situations, is not how hard you’ve gotten hit but rather whether or not you get back up.
